In its first meeting following the election, the London Assembly has today elected Andrew Boff AM as its new Chairman for the year ahead.
Speaking after his appointment, Mr Boff, a Conservative London-wide Assembly Member, said: "This year marks the 21st year of the establishment of the Greater London Authority and the London Assembly. Our work has shaped London over this period.
"The London Assembly is the voice of London. We are here to hold the Mayor to account, to challenge his decisions, and to make sure that he fulfils the pledges one makes in an election period. "As an Assembly, we need to work together, across the political divides, to achieve what Londoners have asked us to prioritise.
"My priority as Chairman is to ensure that this voice of London, to the best of our abilities, is heard most strongly. Our job is to speak truth unto power. I will be fair, firm, and hopefully this will be fun too."
